My work acknowledges the inability to resolve being a concerned citizen with having cultural access to taste. In my recent work, I use post-minimal abstraction to enact the regulatory violence of current décor and fashion. Though initially beautiful, the paintings feel threatening over time. They are a bit too severe and disquieting to actually reinforce the notion of the successful home, nation or corporation. Like most people concerned with contemporary art, I live among those with the least to lose from the security state’s continuation. My use of mediated images alongside the paintings speaks of insulation from consequence.
